Wayne Schurle

Wayne F. Schurle, age 78 of Clay Center, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Tallgrass Healthcare in Junction City.

He was born on January 26, 1948, in Clay Center, the son of Victor and Rosella (Friederich) Schurle. He graduated from Clay Center Community High School in 1966. He then joined the National Guard and served four years.

He married Kathy Kaspar and they had three children. They later divorced.

He married Glenda Wells in December 1991 and had to fly to New York for the first time in his life to fetch his bride. They lived happily on the farm for 34 years.

Wayne worked for Key Milling Chicken Farm, Hutch Mayrath and GT, along with being a farmer and raising cattle and hogs.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Schurle of Green; two sons, Patrick Schurle and wife Kim of Green and Joseph Schurle and wife Lori of Manhattan; one daughter, Kendra Worthen of Clay Center; four grandchildren, Alexis and Lane Schurle of Green and Walker and Ellison Schurle of Manhattan; two brothers, Kenneth Schurle and wife Connie of Green and Doug Schurle and wife Brenda of Green; two sisters, Kathleen Christie and husband Roger of Lawrence and Betty Phelps and husband Fred of Topeka, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Karen Schurle.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, August 30, 2026, in the Ebenezer Cemetery with Pastor Lillian Flegle officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Green Community Cafe and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, PO Box 76, Riley, Kansas 66531.
