Wanda J. Weiche, age 80, of Lake City, Florida, passed away after an extensive illness on Monday, April 27, 2026, at HCA Florida Lake City Hospital.
Wanda Jean Negley was born on October 13, 1945, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Weston and Eloris (Gydesen) Negley. She graduated from North Platte High School and married Charles Heward in 1963. They later divorced. She married Robert Barnhill on June 16, 1969. Tragically, on November 8, 1970, Robert was killed in action in VietNam while serving our country in the United States Army. Merging two families as one, Wanda later married John Engelman in 1972. They later divorced in 1985. Throughout those years, what remained steadfast was Wanda’s love for her children, often sacrificing her own time and interests to ensure their wellbeing. Wanda openly shared that because of her relationship with Jesus, she was able to get through the trials of life. Not giving up on true love, on January 9, 1988, Wanda married the love of her life, Glenn D. Weiche, joining their two families together. Wanda claimed that Glenn made her “the happiest girl in the whole U.S.A.!”
Known for her hard work, beautiful cheerful smile, community spirit, and knowing no stranger, Wanda was a dedicated, award-winning Avon Representative for over 40 years. Her home visits weren’t just about sales, she was a true friend to her customers, often doing wellness checks and sharing a good visit and fresh produce with others. Wanda had a very giving heart! Each year she looked forward to rounding up a large selection of AVON products and gifts to donate to the Valley Heights Community Education: Santa’s Gift Shop. Upon moving from the farm in Greenleaf, Kansas, to Lake City, Florida, she donated all of her remaining AVON inventory to the Christmas gift-shopping program of Valley Heights Community Education that she had so lovingly supported throughout the years. Wanda played a vital role in managing Glenn’s general contracting business and their hog farm. She was a sought out fixture at multiple area Farmers’ Markets, where she and Glenn sold fresh produce from their massive market gardens. Outside of work, she was an avid bowler; she and Glenn were in multiple leagues and traveled to compete in numerous national tournaments throughout the years.
Wanda is survived by her children: Mike (Pam) Heward of Cambridge, IA; Tony (Judy) Heward of Osage City, KS; Tim (Alverta) Heward of Barnes, KS; Lynn (Todd) Sarjent of Lafayette, IN; Carmen Johnson of Clay Center, KS; Lori Dornbusch of Herington, KS; Michelle Martin of Orange City, FL; Robin (Sean) Martin of Pleasant Hill, MO; and Glenna (Kris) Beckley of Wellsville, KS. She is also survived by her siblings: Marilyn Massey, Sandra (Elmer) Trapp, and Doug (Novita) Negley; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Weiche; her son, Daniel Barnhill; and grandsons, Eric Heward, Zachery Jones, and Corey Engelman.
Viewing will be from noon until 7:00 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 15, 2026, at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home with Mr. Rod Christie officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery northwest of Barnes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Valley Heights Community Education: Santa’s Gift Shop and left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, KS 66548.
