Treva Maxine "Mickey" Burklund, 101, of Overland Park and formerly of Olsburg, passed away on July 14, 2025, at Evergreen Hospice in Olathe.
Mickey was born on August 7, 1923, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Calahan Wesley and Hazel Ophelia (Myers) McGinnis. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1942. She married Vernon Burklund at the Hillside Christian Church in Wichita on August 26, 1942. After their wedding, Vernon was inducted into the Navy and they moved to Hutchinson for his military training at the Hutchinson Naval Air Station. Mickey worked for the Cessna Aircraft Company in Hutchinson as a painter of wooden gliders for the WWII Normandy invasion. After the war, they relocated to Olsburg and Mickey became a homemaker, school bus driver and the bookkeeper of their family business, Burklund Oil Company. Vernon and Mickey moved to Overland Park in 2004 to be near their daughter Linda.
She was preceded in death by Vernon, her loving husband of 66 years, her parents, and her siblings Nancy McGinnis, Melba McGinnis, Leon McGinnis, Bernice Erickson and Edward McGinnis.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy (Charles) Reed of Azle, TX, Linda Knudson of Overland Park and Janis Burklund of Dallas; five grandchildren, Cyndi (Greg) St. John, Chuck (Lisa) Reed, Chris (DeWayne) Dixon, Keri Cardenas (Theo Nesland), and Kyle Cardenas, 14 great- grandchildren, Jonathan, Ashley, Chelsee, Ashlee, Meagan, Macee, Ashley, Baylie, Laura, Austin, Braeden, Auguste and Phoenix, 15 great-great grandchildren, Gavin, Conner, Kevvon, Elliee, Emerson, Witten, Brody, Karlie, Kennedy, Lindsi, Evan Rylee, Elizabeth, Colton and Kinslee, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mickey loved to be active and enjoyed swimming, golfing, water skiing, traveling and camping with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, collecting recipes and making homemade craft items. She was a member of the Olsburg Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at the Olsburg Lutheran Church with Rev. Kaylie Ines officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. Burial will be in the Olsburg Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Olsburg Lutheran Church and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
