Richard Strauss

Richard O. Strauss, age 90 of Riley, passed away Monday, August 24, 2026 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.

He was born September 10, 1935 in Junction City, the son of Alfred F. and Grace M. (Oppenlander) Strauss.

On August 9, 1959, he married Shirley J. Fellers at Clarks Creek Church in Junction City. Shirley preceded him in death on February 5, 2022.

Richard spent his life farming near Riley. After he retired, he built a new house and spent many years restoring old cars and tractors. He spent several years custom cutting wheat for Lyle Walter and helped Woodworth Construction build houses in Riley.

He is survived by his son, Dan (Ileene) of Riley; grandchildren, Allen Strauss of Leonardville, David Smith of Leonardville, Angie Crawford (Preston) of Salina, Beryl Billingsley of Riley; great grandchildren, Hannah Strauss of Ohio, Raelynn Strauss of Riley, Summer Strauss of Manhattan, Susan Tyrell of Wakefield, Makenna Smith of Lincolnville and Autumn Crawford of Salina; his brother, Ralph Strauss of Junction City; close friend, Jane Larson of Leonardville and his loving dog, Molly.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alfred and his sister, Ruth.

Cremation is planned with no services at this time.
