Richard McFadden, Jr.

John Edward McFadden, Jr., age 69, passed away on May 16, 2026, while enjoying the day outside sitting with his great friend, Evelyn, at the Via Christi Village in Manhattan.

He was born on July 26, 1956, in Riverside, California, the son of John Edward Sr. and Elisabeth (Materna) McFadden.

In 1969, he moved to Olsburg, Kansas with his parents. In 1976, John moved to Wilsey, Kansas and worked at Dalquest Gas Service Station for several years. He later bought into partnership with Wayne Evans at the Wilsey Oil Elevator.

A few years later, he started driving a semi-truck for Werner Enterprises and then switched to driving for Schwan's Trucking Company before retiring. During the Covid-19 pandemic, John kept working, trucking food ingredients from state to state.

John married Shirley Washburn and they later divorced. He and Angie Kanish married and they later divorced. John found the love of his life with Jaylyn Montgomery and they lived together for several years until her health failed and she passed away.

He had a great sense of humor, but also could be found to be grumpy. He struggled with diabetes in his later years. John enjoyed working on motor vehicles and had a Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was a big fan of John Wayne and his trucking buddies, and loved his German Schnauzer pets.

He is survived by his two sisters, Rosemarie Terriere and husband Jim of Spirit Lake, Idaho, and Irene Johnson and husband Rick of Olsburg, Kansas; one brother, Robert "Bob" McFadden and wife Melba of Wilsey, Kansas, and many nephews, nieces, and a great nephew.

Cremation is planned with a graveside service in the Riley Cemetery to be held at a later date. The Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
