Norman N. Dummermuth, age 84, of Manhattan, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.
Norman was born February 13, 1939, in Waterville, to John R. and Elizabeth A. (Wallace) Dummermuth. He graduated from Waterville High School in 1957 where he played on the 1955 and 1956 undefeated Yellowjacket football team. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard while still in high school. He then attended Kansas State University.
He married Betty J. Tilley on October 10, 1958, at the Methodist Parsonage in Waterville. She survives. Norman and Betty enjoyed camping and boating with their children and later traveling in their RV.
Norm operated the family farm southwest of Waterville for over 30 years. After retiring from the farm, he worked at Tuttle Creek State Park for 19 years. He was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church where in his younger years he sang in the choir and later served on the Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Young Farmers of America and served on the Waterville COOP Board of Directors. Norm enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Betty, his three children: Barb (Rick Boss) Dummermuth of Waterville, John (Dawna) Dummermuth of Manhattan, and Bev Dummermuth of Brisbane Australia; six grandchildren: Tifanie (Blake) Martin, Valerie (Shaun) Winnie, Rusty (Courtney) Dummermuth, Lewis (Jessica) Boss, Natalie (Chance) DeForest, and Samantha (Eric Lira) Dummermuth; and fifteen great-grandchildren: Cayden, Kloee, Connor, Wyatt, Elsee, Lexi, Braxlyn, Jacqui, Waylon, Sterling, Lainee, Nellie, Paisley, Meyer, and Molly.
Preceding Norman in death are his parents, his brother John W. Dummermuth, and sisters, Connie Blaser, Janice Menzel and Elma Mae Dummermuth.
Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Monday, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.
Funeral services are at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at the Waterville United Methodist Church, with Pastor John Collins officiating. Music will include piano and organ duet by Beverly Hedke and Delores Blaser. John Nordquist will sing “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross”. Casket bearers include: Rusty Dummermuth, Lewis Boss, Blake Martin, Eric Lira, Shaun Winnie, Chance DeForest and JC Menzel. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.
Memorials are suggested to the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan and may be sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
