Melvin Padgett

Melvin Darrell Padgett, age 79 of Manhattan, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2022 at his residence.

He was born on November 26, 1942 in Manhattan, the son of Robert L. and Gladys C. (Iseman) Padgett.  He graduated from Manhattan High School.

On June 30, 1963, he married Nancy L. Tiemeyer in Clifton.  She survives of the home.

Melvin was a meat cutter in several grocery stores and did masonry work during his later working years.  He was a former President of the Kansas Hunter’s Safety Association and an instructor.  He was involved with Fur Harvester’s and the Eureka Lions Club.  Melvin was an outdoorsman, enjoying wildlife, hunting, fishing and bird watching.

In addition to his wife Nancy, he is survived by two children, Michele West and husband Mike of Wichita and Craig Padgett and wife Melody of Manhattan; five grandchildren, Jordan West, Alex West, Hannah West, Drew Padgett and Ashton Padgett; one brother, William “Bill” Padgett and wife Judy of Manhattan and one sister, Catherine Carlisle of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-father, Martin Harper; two brothers, Robert “Bobby” Padgett and Grover “LeRoy” Padgett and one sister, Bonnie Kading.

Memorials may be made to Interim Hospice of Manhattan or KSDS Assistance Dogs Inc. and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
