Maxine Louise Peter, age 91 of Randolph, Kansas passed away peacefully at the Leonardville Nursing Home on Friday, December 28, 2012. She was born January 31, 1921, at the family farm on Otter Creek, the daughter of William and Martha (Weber) Hagenmaier. She attended Prairie Rock School and graduated from Randolph High School in 1938. She married Kenneth Peter on May 25, 1941 at Randolph, Kansas. They lived in the Fancy Creek area until 1960 when Tuttle Creek Dam forced them to move. They built a new home on Hilltop Road where they resided until January 20, 2001, when they moved to a new home in Randolph. Maxine enjoyed working with flowers and gardening. She was a homemaker and an excellent cook who always saw that everyone was well fed. She was a member of the Randolph United Methodist Church where she taught a group of active young children. She was also church treasurer for several years. She enjoyed being active in the UMW group at the church and was a member of the Randolph EHU. She also enjoyed being an active volunteer at the Randolph Senior Center and was a former member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth on August 18, 2012; her parents; four brothers, Oswin, Ralph, Arthur and Earl Hagenmaier; one sister, Fern Berggren and a brother-in-law, William Peter. She is survived by three sons, Ronald Peter and wife Ruby of Randolph, Gary Peter and wife Judy of Manhattan and Duane Peter and wife Linda of Liberty, Missouri; one daughter, Diane Curtis and husband Allan of Lakewood, Colorado; 10 grandchildren, Tamara Nickell and husband Shane, Rhonda Richter and husband Matt, James Peter and wife Jenny, Jason Peter and wife Betsy, Jody Fronce, Janelle Zimmer and husband Bryan, Sandra Ash and husband Jeff, Lori Birney and husband Eric, John Peter and Carrie Anstine and husband David; 21 great grandchildren and two sister-in-laws, Jaunita Peter and Bernice Hagenmaier. Funeral services were held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Randolph United Methodist Church in Randolph, Kansas with Rev. Deborah A. Hanes-Nelson officiating. Music was furnished by Alice Gibson and Betty Wohler. Pallbearers were James Peter, Jason Peter, John Peter, Bryan Zimmer, Jeff Ash, Eric Birney, Matt Richter, Shane Nickell and David Anstine. Burial was in the Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Randolph United Methodist Church.
