Maxine Haller

Maxine L. Haller age 98, of Abilene, formerly of Blue Rapids, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Village Manor in Abilene.

Maxine was born July 6, 1927 at the family farm 3½ miles SW of Blue Rapids, she was the only child of Harry Thomas and Ruby (Reed) Lamb.

She attended Gamefork Rural School for six years, she graduated from Blue Rapids High School in the class of 1945. After graduation she worked at the Marshall County Courthouse.

Maxine married Jack G. Haller at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids on November 18, 1945. They became the parents of Jacquelyn Kay and Donald Max. They lived in Kansas City for five years, both working for Trans World Airlines. They returned to her parent's farm in 1950 and moved to Blue Rapids in 1955. In 2016 she moved to Abilene to be near her children.

Maxine was active in music throughout her life, singing at many funerals. She was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Blue Rapids. She also worked for thirteen years at the Blue Rapids Times.

She had been a board member for the Rainbow Girls, the Blue Valley Nursing Home and the Blue Rapids Historical Society. She was a sixty-five year member of Elnora Chapter 179, Order of the Eastern Star and had served as Worthy Matron and District Aide. Other memberships include the Blue Rapids Historical Society, Blue Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Women of the Moose, Blue Rapids Lions Club, as well as several card clubs. She had served on the election board for sixty years and was a Red Cross Bloodmobile Volunteer for forty-five years. She was a member and secretary of Alcove Springs Preservation.

Maxine and Jack enjoyed dancing, traveling, playing cards and being with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as dear friends.

Preceding Maxine in death are her parents and her husband Jack, who passed away in 2015.

She leaves behind a daughter Jacque Saffell and husband Tom of Abilene, a son Don Haller and wife Tracie of Abilene; five grandchildren, Jill Michael and husband Ashley, Tommy Saffell and wife Megan, Lacy Perrin and husband Brett, Tori Galentine and husband Jim and Dane Haller; great grandchildren, Brady, Leah, Davis, Fletcher, Colton, Aiden, Gavin and Bowen. She loved all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.

Graveside Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at the Prospect Hill Cemetery with Father Greg Doll officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Episcopal Church or the Blue Rapids Historical Society and may be left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
