Marvin Christopher Henry Moormann, age 91 of Manhattan, Kansas, died Friday, January 24, 2014 at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan. He was born on September 15, 1922 in the Strawberrry Township in Washington County, Kansas, the son of John and Martha (Pruser) Moormann. He was presented to the Lord in Holy Baptism on September 17, 1922 by Rev. P. Stolp. After receiving instructions in the Christian religion, he was confirmed on March 21, 1937 by Rev. P. Stolp at Immanuel Lutheran Church Marvin entered the Navy in September of 1944. He served overseas from June 1945 until December 1945 aboard an aircraft carrier as a machinist. After his discharge in June 1946, he farmed west of Linn. He also managed the lumber yard in Palmer for 23 years, then moved to Manhattan where he worked at the Manhattan Public Library for 22 years. On December 25, 1955 at Linn, Kansas, he was married to Darleen Emma Scheele. She survives of the home. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church by Linn and St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan and the American Legion. He loved making sculptures and ornaments out of iron, gardening and most of all his grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Marvin Moormann, Jr. and wife Teri of Topeka and Marlene Moormann of Manhattan; two grandchildren, Jeremy Moormann and Sara of Topeka and Christy Siebert and husband Aaron of Olathe; one great grandson, Corbin Siebert; two sisters, Rosie Calderwood of Topeka and Wilma Wiechman and husband Ervin of Valley Center; three sister-in-laws, Lola Herrs, Donna Scheele and Esther Scheele all of Linn and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Moormann; an adopted brother, Art Beikman; a nephew Stanley Wiechman and four brother-in-laws, Sam Calderwood, Wilbert Scheele, Raymond Scheele and Verlin Herrs. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan, Kansas with Rev. Michael Schmidt officiating. Music was furnished by Barb Ruhnke. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeremy Moorman, Rex Jewel, Neil Herrs, Mark Herrs, Duane Wiechman and Ansehelm Wiechman. Active Pallbearers were Bob Calderwood, Mick Calderwood, Bruce Herrs, Gene Herrs, Kent Scheele and Larry Scheele. Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, west of Linn, Kansas. Memorials have been established for St. Luke’s Lutheran Church and Good Shepherd Hospice House. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
