Malakai Isaac Dean Rowland-Van Horn, age 23 of Clay Center, KS, died Friday, July 25, 2014 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS. He was born on October 13, 1990 at Fort Riley, KS. On June 4, 2011 at Clay Center, he was married to Diamond Lou. She survives of the home. He was a CNA at the Clay County Medical Center and was a three time cancer survivor and participated in the survivor walk for the Relay 4 Life since the age of 15. He also went to the Bahamas for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He was active in Boy Scouts, making it almost to Eagle Scout. He was an accomplished bowler, winning many trophies in the youth bowling league. He graduated from CCCHS in 2009 and was active in band since 5th grade. He enjoyed playing Playstation, reading and listening to music. He was addicted to cooking shows and had a list of all the restaurants he wanted to eat at across the country. Most of all, he loved being with family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother and father, Dena Van Horn and William Van Horn of Clay Center; a brother, Zachariah Van Horn of Clay Center; grandparents, Garold and Dorcile Moon of Clay Center and David and Margaret Rowland of Presque Isle, ME and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Clay Center Wesleyan Church with Pastor Rob Stewart officiating. A celebration of of his life will be at the Clay Center American Legion immediately following the memorial service. A memorial has been established for the Malakai Rowland-Van Horn Memorial Fund. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, KS.
