Leona Marie Stauffer

Leona Marie Stauffer, loving wife and mother went home to be with God at the age of 91, on Monday, June 1, 2026. She left this world peacefully in her sleep at Stoneybrook Assisted Living in Manhattan.

She was born on August 13, 1934, the daughter of Marvin Lynn and Alberta Ruby (Carlton) Smith. She will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, her feistiness and for the love and kindness she had for others. She enjoyed teaching her daughters how to sew and cook. She always found beauty in the simplist things and she loved singing the old church hymns. She loved her family very much.

Leona will be deeply missed by her daughters, Linda Killough (Ray), Caroline Whitby, Regania Peterson (Brent), Jerrie Rieck (Tim) and Julia Anderson (Cliff); one step son, Michael Stauffer (Kay); many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; her sisters, Lena Sherbon, Martha Templeton (John), Joyce Brokaw (Dale) and one sister-in-law, Linda Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Stauffer; her parents; sister, Ruby Hornsby; two brothers, Marvin, Jr and Robert Smith; two brother-in-laws, Locker Hornsby and John Sherbon; one son-in-law, Ron Whitby; and two grandchildren, Linda Duckett and April Dinger.

A Celebration of Life Service is planned for 10:00 am Saturday, July 11, 2026, at the Park Pavilion, 403 Park Street, Blue Rapids, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, south of Blue Rapids.

The Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville is handling the arrangements.
