Lorena Lee Wilcox, age 66 of Blue Rapids, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023 at the Frankfort Community Care Home.


She was born on November 23, 1956 in Marysville, the daughter of Robert Gene and Garnet Sharleen (Singleton) Wilcox.  She graduated from Valley Heights High School.


She married Rankin Swearingen and they later divorced.


Lorena was a nurse’s aide at the Blue Valley Nursing Home for many years and also waitressed for a while at some local restaurants.  She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, baking, watching old western movies, going to casinos and later online casinos.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren.


She is survived by two daughters, Amber Swearingen of Blue Rapids and Jackie Swearingen of Wymore, Nebraska; one son, Shane Shanek of Belvue; four brothers, Bryon Wilcox, Bob (Cathy) Wilcox, Jon (Deb Long) Wilcox and Randy Wilcox; two sisters, Vicki (Scott Mahin) Morgan and Rene (Ken) Smith; seven grandchildren, Zoe, Rylee, Ashlynne, Blaise, Skylar, Ryker and Maverick; her step-father, Tim Davis and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Wilcox and Garnet Davis and one brother, William “Bill” Wilcox.


A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Prospect Hill Cemetery with Pastor Berniece Ludlum officiating.


Memorials may be made to the Lorena Wilcox Memorial Fund and left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, P.O. Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
