Kristin Doty

Kristin Teresa Doty, age 52 of Manhattan, passed away Thursday, April 2, 2026, at the Good Shepherd Hospice House in Manhattan.

She was born on November 29, 1973, in Norwich, Connecticut, the daughter of Thomas and Barbara (Tunnhoff) Piepenhagen.

Kristin joined the United States Army at age 18, where she served four years as a Combat Medic at Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii. After she got out of the military, she wanted to get away from healthcare but always seemed to find her way back. In 2002, after moving to Kansas, she got her CNA and started working at Leonardville Nursing Home. In 2004, she received her LPN and went to Geary County Community Hospital where she worked for eight years. She then went to Irwin Army Community Hospital on Fort Riley where she medically retired at the end of 2021.

Kristin was the bookworm of bookworms. She lived to read a great psychological thriller or a good who dun-it story. In recent years she picked up the love for Korean culture through cuisine, KPOP, and KDramas. She also found a past time in Diamond Painting. Above all else Kristin's cats were her world. Bubba, Susie, and Taz were waiting to guide her home. Najin was there to keep her company until the end.

She is survived by her mother & stepfather, Barbara & Lee Jones of Riley; her father, Thomas Piepenhagen of Roanoke, VA; one sister, Tanja (Michael) Jeason of Kansas City, KS; her niece, Jennifer (Joseph) Hume of Manhattan; her great niece, Nadiya, and her great nephew, Broderick.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Günther & Käthe Piepenhagen; her maternal grandparents, Paul & Anneliese Tunnhoff, and four paternal uncles, Ulrich, Hans Christian, Joachim, and Frank Piepenhagen.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 3, 2026, at the Riley Café with further details to be announced. If you would like to reach out for further details, you may contact Jennifer at (785) 410-2002.

Memorial donations may be made to Kansas State University Johnson Cancer Research Center or Susan G. Komen Foundation and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home, PO Box 176, Riley, KS 66531.
