Jill (Peterson) Hull, age 84, of Waterville, passed away September 8, 2025 in Olathe, Kansas where she had been residing at the Crestone since October 2024.
Jill was born August 11, 1941 in Junction City, Kansas to Roland Luther & Twila Marie (White) Peterson. She was the 30th birthday present her dad couldn’t return.
Jill married her high school sweetheart Lloyd Dale Hull on March 20, 1964 at the United Methodist Church, Waterville, KS. Lloyd & Jill began dating when she was a junior and he was an eighth grader. She liked to tease that she got him young so she could train him the way she wanted him.
Jill attended Kindergarten at Franklin School in Junction City before moving to Waterville, Kansas when her parents purchased the Rommel Drug Store in 1948. Jill graduated from Waterville High School valedictorian then went on to graduate cum laude with her bachelor’s at Kansas Wesleyan, Salina in 1963. To further her education, Jill received both her masters and administrators degrees from K-State.
Jill started her teaching career at Marysville’s Central School from 1963-1965. She then went on to teaching at Waterville Elementary School from 1971 to 2003 teaching 2nd grade the majority of those years. In addition to 2nd grade, Jill taught 4th grade, 3rd grade and Special Education a year each. Jill and Patricia Osborne were instrumental in getting the after school program started. Between trucker buddies, pen pals from Rochester, NY and the ever present Oregon Trail once computers came into the class, Jill was always excited to teach her students something new.
Jill joined Delta Kappa Gamma’s Alpha Delta Chapter in 1974. In 1989, the Valley Heights teachers broke away and created the Gamma Eta chapter. Jill presided as president in both chapters. She was also a proud member of the NEA and the KNEA.
Lloyd and Jill loved to travel. They were chaperones of the high school trip to Washington DC in 1994. All 50 states and much of Europe were visited in their lifetimes. Lloyd & Jill also cruised the world including the Bahamas, the Amazon River, Panama Canal, the Baltic & Mediterranean, French Polynesia & Tahiti.
When Jill wasn’t traveling or teaching, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, watching Game Show Network and baking. Jill would often send her grandkids off with a bag of fresh baked cookies or send Lloyd to the mine with a pan of cinnamon twists. While at the Crestone, she enjoyed BINGO, volleyball, and dining with a group of friends she had made while there.
Jill was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church and enjoyed playing in the English Handbell Choir. She learned to play piano at a young age and enjoyed it throughout the years. In high school she played the clarinet.
Jill is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lloyd, in 2023.
