Elizabeth Jane “Janie” Martin, age 86, of Manhattan, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015 at the Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was born to Lester O. and Lela Maud (Webb) Heckethorn on December 19, 1928. In 1947, after graduating from Wichita East High School, Janie attended K-State for one semester. She then enrolled at Brown Business School for a time before returning to K-State to study business administration. She loved to make bows and arrange flowers. Loren H. Martin and Janie were married on July 10, 1949. They had six children and were married for 54 years until Loren’s passing in 2003. The Martin family lived on a farm near Caldwell, moved to Clay Center from 1971-1988, moving then to Fancy Creek near Randolph from 1988-1993 and then moved to Manhattan. Janie was preceded in death by her sister Velma Holmes and her son Donald David Martin. She is survived by her son Larry Martin of Clay Center; four daughters Sharon Houston and husband Paul of Manhattan, Merrie Martin of Valley Center, Joan Ingraham and husband Ted of Topeka, Loretta Kordyak and husband Dave of Manhattan, fifteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; her nephew, Ron Holmes and wife Kay, Columbus,KS and her niece, Linda Sterk and husband Tony of Bartlesville, OK. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Leslye Haller officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. Tuesday until service time. Interment will take place in the Valley View Memorial Gardens. A memorial has been established for the Janie Martin Memorial Fund. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley.
