Herman R. Wiard, age 93 of Manhattan, Kansas, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Mercy Regional Health Center in Manhattan.
He was born on October 25, 1920 in rural Riley County, near Manhattan, the son of Herman Earl and Mary (Crider) Wiard.
On May 14, 1942, he was married to Verna Alice Johnson at Leonardville, Kansas. She survives of the home.
He was a foreman for the grounds department at Kansas State University for 30 years. He was a member of the Keats United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rites, Keats Redirects and Eastern Star. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening and reading.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Howard A. Wiard and wife Judy of Denver, Colorado and David C. Wiard and wife Nancy of Viola, Kansas; one daughter, Mary Alice Wiard of Wichita, Kansas; his twin sister, Helen C. Crowl of Olathe, Kansas; four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Keats United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Eisele officiating.
A memorial has been established for the Keats United Methodist Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
