Harold E. Sutton, age 91, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2026, at the Blue Valley Health and Rehabilitation Center in Blue Rapids.
Harold was born on March 1, 1935 in Blue Rapids to Ralph E. “Smick” and Delores M. (Curry) Sutton. Harold graduated from Blue Rapids High School in 1955. After high school he joined the US Army serving two years. On August 26, 1956, he married Virginia V. Miller at the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids. She passed away in 2022.
After the army Harold worked several jobs. Starting with the Union Pacific he also worked for K-DOT, Georgia Pacific and then Titan in Blue Rapids. He was known as someone who could fix just about anything. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and golf. When it came to sports, he was a fan of the KC Chiefs, KC Royals, and his favorite KU Basketball. He loved watching his girls and grandkids play their sports. Most of all, he loved any kind of family gathering.
Harold was a member of the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids and the George Bedford Post 169 of the American Legion in Blue Rapids.
Survivors include two daughters, Crystal Gordon of Blue Rapids and Carolyn (Doug) Griffitt of Wamego, four grandchildren Nicholas (Britany), Alex (Chris), Rachel (Jordan) and Jennifer, and nine great grandchildren: Cade, Tyler, Ryker, Amelia, Jeffrey, Kensley, Adalynn, Beckett and Zoey.
Preceding Harold in death are his wife Virginia, parents, Ralph and Delores Sutton, and a daughter Carla Sutton.
Viewing is from noon to 7:00 pm, Tuesday, with visitation between 6:00 and 7:00 pm, at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.
Funeral services are at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids.
Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery, north of Blue Rapids.
Memorials will be used for the new concession stand at the Blue Rapids ball fields. Memorials may be made out to the Blue Rapids Chamber of Commerce and sent in care of Christie-Anderes Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
