Harold Eugene “Gene” Henry, age 75 of Randolph, Kansas, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Autumn Hills in Riley, Kansas. He was born on October 2, 1937, near Leonardville, Kansas, the son of Leslie Thomas and Eleanor Selma (Rosell) Henry. Gene grew up on farms in rural Leonardville and Randolph and graduated from Randolph High School in 1955. He purchased a farm north of Randolph and raised Holstein Dairy Cows. He had part time jobs helping build Randolph schools and working on Fort Riley. He retired from farming in 1983 and worked for a hog operation. In 1986, he started Gene’s Sales and Service. He also served in the Marysville National Guard. Animals were the love of his life and he enjoyed working on engines, auto repair, bowling, hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Walsburg Lutheran Church and served on the church council. He married Adeline Sweany in 1959. They later divorced. From this union came two children, Jon and Cindy Henry. On May 30, 1979, in Boulder, Colorado, he was married to Mary Kay Funk. She survives of the home. From this union came one son, Jared. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kay Henry of Randolph; two sons, Jon and Marian Henry of Manhattan and Jared Henry and Heather Johnson of Randolph; one daughter, Cindy L. Henry and Quinn Allen of Trenton, Missouri and three grandchildren, Lea Folsom of San Francisco, California, Lacy Folsom of Manhattan and Lyle Folsom of Trenton, Missouri He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leland D. Henry. Funeral services were held on August 12, 2013, at the Walsburg Lutheran Church with Pastor Gordon L. Sandquist officiating. Music was was provided by Rhonda Baer and Russell Peterson. Honorary Pallbearers were Steve Hargrave, John McPherson, Fred Mann, Dennis Mortoff and Donald “Curly” Wright. Pallbearers were Bill Neilson, Jim Fiegener, Larry Klocke, Russell Peterson, Ron Peter and Jerry Ericson. Burial was in the Walsburg Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Gene Henry Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
