Elnora Jones

Elnora Mary Jones, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 5, 2026, at the Presbyterian Manor in Clay Center.

She was born on December 26, 1925, on the family farm, west of Riley, the daughter of Fred and Emma (Sylvester) Trumpp.

At an early age, she attended a couple of different country schools around Riley. From there she graduated from Riley Rural High School in May of 1945. During her high school years, she was active as a cheerleader, playing the piano, and the violin in orchestra. She gained many lifelong friends from these school years.

On September 5, 1945, she was united in marriage to Eugene Jones of the Bala community. This was held at the family farm east of Riley, where many friends and family attended. This marriage was blessed with three children, Michael Eugene, Eugenia Mary, and Doyle Leon.

Elnora and Eugene started out their married life on a farm southwest of Riley. They resided there until June 1966, when unfortunately, Fort Riley expanded and took their farm. They moved to a farm between Leonardville and Randolph to Walsburg, a lively and caring Swedish community, who welcomed them with open arms.

Throughout their married life Elnora was a strong, hardworking, loving wife and helpmate to Eugene. Working by his side, milking cows, feeding calves, feeding and dressing chickens, plus many other outside jobs.

Elnora had a very green thumb which showed from her many plants and flowers inside and out. She was an accomplished piano player, and a seamstress making many of the family clothes.

When Elnora was 55, they sold the milk cows and she was able to fulfill a dream to become a nurse. She attended C.N.A. classes at Clay Center Hospital, with a lot of encouragement from Eugene. From here she worked ten years at the Leonardville Nursing Home, and gained many lifelong friends.

Elnora and Eugene were active members at Crossroads Baptist Church in Riley for many years. Their strong confession of faith in Jesus Christ led them to minister hundreds of people over the years. Elnora touched many lives in her work, her church, and many other ways.

She is survived by her three children, Mike Jones and wife Linda of Holton, Eugenia Bonewitz of Gardner, and Doyle Jones and wife Dixie of Manhattan; six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene; her parents, and two brothers, Maynard and Alwin Trumpp.
