Eldon LeRoy Chapman, age 88 of Hewitt, Texas, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2024, at the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Hillcrest in Waco, Texas.
He was born on January 5, 1936, in Clayton, New Mexico, the son of Fred and Dilla (Criner) Chapman. After his mother’s death, he was raised by an uncle and aunt, Harmon and Robena Chapman, in Manhattan until 1949. They then moved to Florence, Arizona where Eldon graduated high school before joining the U.S. Air Force.
On August 30, 1958, he married Patricia Williams. She survives of the home.
Eldon served proudly in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years and had tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Following his retirement from the military, he worked for Kansas State University for 20 years as a storekeeper in the Chemistry Department.
He was a member of the Randolph United Methodist Church and Olsburg American Legion. He was an avid WWII historian, collecting books and memorabilia on that era. He and his family are strong K-State football fans and watched the games available to them in Texas.
In addition to his wife Patricia, he is survived by a son, Scott and his wife, Jenny; three grandsons, Kyle, Colby and Jordan and his wife Stacy; two great grandchildren, Jude and Lyla; one sister-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeff; two grandson, Jason and Evan; six brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be held on July 19, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at the Randolph Community Church. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Riley Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Eldon Chapman Memorial Fund and left in care with the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
