Elaine Mary Lindstrom, age 91, of Riley, Kansas, died April 26, 2014, at the Leonardville Nursing Home. She was born on April 19, 1923, on the Greenfield family farm southwest of Leonardville, the daughter of August and Lillian (Greenfield) Trumpp. She was baptized in the Fairview Presbyterian Church on August 3, 1924. She attended the Methodist Church in Stockdale while living there and later joined the Fairview Presbyterian Church in 1937 when the family moved to Riley. Elaine started grade school at Grandview and later moved to Stockdale around third grade. She graduated from grade school in 1937 at graduation exercises at the Manhattan High School auditorium. She graduated from Riley High School in 1941 and later worked for Perry Packing Company in Manhattan and Riley Telephone Company office as an operator and bookkeeper. On August 29, 1944, she was married to Marvin Lindstrom at the Manhattan home of Rev. Guerrant. Marvin enlisted in the U.S. Navy and left for basic training at the Great Lakes in November 1944. When he was sent to Ft. Pierce, Florida, for amphibious training, she joined him for a few months. During that time she worked for the Sunshine Packing Company canning food for the troops. She returned to Riley when he shipped out and once again worked for the Riley Telephone Company. Marvin was a master carpenter, and they lived in Hays, Larned, and Victoria, Kansas, and in Sidney, Nebraska. They had three children, Cathy, Marcia and Randall. When it was time for Cathy to start school, they moved back to Riley; the children were all schooled at Riley County schools. Elaine taught Sunday School for pre-school age children for many years. She was an active P.W. member and held many offices. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 168, and a faithful member of the Riley Neighborhood Club and Food Pantry Board. Elaine loved children and provided childcare for many children in the community. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Marvin preceded her in death on October 30, 1990. Also, she was preceded in death by her sister, Leona Severance, and brothers Marvin and Gene Trumpp. She is survived by three children, Cathy Walker of Riley, Marcia Goff and husband Don of Keats, and Randall Lindstrom and wife Brenda of Riley; a brother DeWayne Trumpp and his wife, Jean, of Andover; nine grandchildren, Craig Goff, April Goff, Travis Goff, Catherine Brady, Joshua Aaron Bryan, Brandon Goff, Mark Welser, Miranda and Jordan Lindstrom and ten great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m..on Wednesday April 30, 2014, at the Fairview Presbyterian Church, north of Riley with Pastor Kevin Larson and Rev. D. Erich Schwartz officiating. Respect calls may be anytime Tuesday at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 7 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Fairview Presbyterian Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley, Kansas.
