David “Dave” Errol Evans, 82, of Frankfort, passed away at the Community Hospital in Onaga on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
Dave was born October 10, 1942, in Chicago, IL, to Herman E. “Woody” and Iona “Maxine” (Tallent) Evans. He left high school early to join the U.S. Army and served for six years with the Big Red One in Fort Riley. During his enlistment, he served in Germany for three years. He married Connie L. Carter on October 2, 1963 at Fort Riley.
He was the Station Engineer at NCRA Products Pipeline in Blue Rapids for nearly 20 years. He and Connie owned and operated the Country Inn in Waterville for eight years. After living in Blue Rapids and Waterville for many years, he moved to Montana where he owned a sandblasting company and occasionally drove a ski bus for Big Mountain Resort in Whitefish, Montana, and a touring bus called the Red Jammer for Glacier National Park. He also drove a bus for a rafting company in the off season. He and Connie retired to Frankfort in 2006.
Dave (or Ev as he was known to some) was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper for most of his life. He loved to tell stories about his adventures to family and friends. He loved gardening and cooking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He held a special relationship with his father-in-law, Orville Lee Carter, who was also his best friend. Dave taught hunter safety courses, coached baseball and was a Boy Scout leader. He loved attending his children’s activities. He also loved to watch sports, namely K-State, The Kansas City Chiefs and the KC Royals. He was strong in his faith and attended The Crossing in Marysville. He was also a deacon at his church in Montana. He was a home group leader and traveled to China where he helped “smuggle” Bibles to the Chinese Christians. Dave was a Jack of all Trades and could fix or build almost anything. In his later years, he loved to go to garage and estate sales.
