Cletus Young

Cletus Darrel Young, age 85 of Manhattan, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Stoneybrook Retirement Community in Manhattan.

He was born on November 5, 1938, in rural Riley County, Kansas, the son of Earl and Edith (Stadel) Young.  He graduated from St. George High School, where he excelled in sports, especially basketball.

On July 28, 1958, he married Evelyn Marie Pease at the St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Manhattan.

Cletus was a lifetime farmer and stockman.  He raised, and sold, a lot of prize-winning show pigs.  He was a member of the National Swine Registry and National Duroc Association.  He loved his family and following his children’s and grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Young of Manhattan; three children, Diane Kaul and George Rotsart of Ankeny, Iowa, Lorri Greve and husband John of Davenport, Iowa, and Mark Young and wife Kim of Manhattan; and three grandchildren, Taylor Neilson (Travis), Jacob Kaul, and Delaney Young.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Vivian Brooks and Gwen Sumners.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. on December 30, 2023, at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home followed by a private family graveside service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Riley County 4-H Foundation and American Diabetes Association.  Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
