Caroline Barbara Hougland, age 76, a former resident of Riley, Kansas, died Saturday, January 18, 2014, at the Leonardville Nursing Home in Leonardville, Kansas. She was born August 23, 1937, at Herington, Kansas, the daughter of John and Caroline (Koelzer) Weber. She was married to Charles Hougland on March 2, 1957. Caroline was a homemaker and a member of the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas. She is survived by three sons, David Hougland and his fiancee Kathy Woodworth of Leonardville, Kansas, Daniel Hougland and wife Rachel of Wamego, Kansas and John Hougland and wife Merlene of Leonardville, Kansas; two daughters, Christine Hougland and fiance Mike Choyeski of Belgrade, Nebraska and Jean-Mari Norman of Herington, Kansas; two brothers, Leo Weber and wife Jeannie of Texas and Alfred Weber of Colorado; one sister, Martha Sly and husband Jerry of Herington, Kansas; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Hougland in 2006; one son, Mark Hougland in 1985; her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Mass of the Christian Burial was held on Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Clay Center, Kansas, with Father Larry Grennan as Celebrant. Music was furnished by Sister Janis Wagner and Mitch McMahan. Pallbearers were Jimmy Younkin, Matthew Younkin, Jake Norman, Tim Norman, Daniel E. Hougland and Nick Horner. Burial was in the Riley Cemetery. A memorial has been established to be determined at a later date.
