Carol Deanne Koppes, age 86 of Manhattan, passed away Monday, June 1, 2026, at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was born on September 24, 1939, on the family farm between Greenleaf and Barnes, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Klataske) Klozenbucher. She graduated from Barnes High School.
On August 24, 1963, she married Gregory Joseph Koppes in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf. He survives.
Carol was a dental assistant for many years in Washington, Greenleaf, Marysville, and Manhattan. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Altar Society. She enjoyed cooking and baking, walking, and was an avid bird watcher. Carol always had a cat and loved animals. In her final years, Carol was most proud of her three sons, their accomplishments, and the love and friendship they shared as brothers.
In addition to her husband, Greg Koppes, she is survived by three sons, Brian Koppes and wife Lisa of Lawrence, Eric Koppes and wife Cheri of Manhattan, and Todd Koppes and wife Sara of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Marian Rencin of Marysville; seven grandchildren, Ally Koppes Moss (Austin), Anna Koppes (Dallas Brown), Noah Koppes, Isaiah Koppes, Josie Koppes, Joaquin Koppes, and Cruz Koppes, and one great grandson, Theodore Moss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, John Klozenbucher, Cleo Klozenbucher, and Neil Klossen.
A visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf, with the Rosary being recited at 3:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2026, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greenleaf with Fr. David Metz as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.
Memorials may be made to the Carol Koppes Memorial Fund, to be designated by the family later. Contributions may be left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
