Camoran Michael Shoptese, age 36, of Blue Rapids, passed away on July 4, 2024.
Born in Topeka on July 14, 1987, he was the beloved son of Joyce Singleton and Sonny Shoptese and a member of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. His heritage meant the world to him, some might say he was “One proud NDN”.
Camoran had a passion for diverse interests, from tinkering with vehicles and repairing motorcycles to composing music, drawing, and playing frisbee golf. He often joked about becoming a pianist and cherished time spent with his family and friends. Known for his generous spirit, Camoran was always ready to lend a helping hand, whether it was tackling renovations, changing flat tires at dawn, or offering his skills as a handyman.
Camoran is survived by his parents and a step-mother, Nancy Lue-Shoptese; his children Emilynn Shoptese of Topeka, Camoran Shoptese II, and Atilita Shoptese of Great Bend; four sisters, Angie (Corey) Ekstrum of Waterville, Traci (Michael) Koebel of Waterville, Ashley (Todd) DeWitt, and Teresa Shoptese, both of Blue Rapids; his nieces and nephews, Madison, Mason, Marshall, Christopher, Colby, Haven, Preston, Skylar, Royce, Shaylee, Ryenne, Sydnee, along with his great-nieces Maggie and Aurora and a cousin, Cody Martin. He also leaves behind nine dear friends: Evan and Bethany (with their children), Shoshanna (with her children), Delmer and Vivian, Kyle, Bruce, Heather and David.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Vance Spiker, grandparents Pat and Royce Singleton, grandfather Pete Shoptese, grandmother Kathleen Pomani and step-father Michael Waller.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.
An inurnment ceremony will be held at a later date at Shipshee Cemetery on the Potawatomi Indian Reservation to honor Camoran's memory. The Christie-Anderes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
