Beverly Dettmer

Beverly Ann Dettmer, age 85, of Manhattan and formerly of Randolph, passed away on November 8, 2018 at Homestead Assisted Living.

She was born October 2, 1933 in Chanute, Kansas, the seventh child of Archie Owen and Bernice Helen (McLaren) Dimon.

She graduated from Chanute High School in 1951 and worked for a year before attending a three-year program at William Newton School of Nursing in Winfield, Kansas, where she earned her RN license.  She took a post-graduate course in surgery at the Baylor School of Medicine in Dallas before working at hospitals in Houston and Chicago.  After returning to Topeka to be closer to family, she met Elmer Dettmer.  They were married on August 24, 1969.  To this union was born a son, Kevin.

Beverly was a homemaker while her son was young, but returned to nursing after he started school.  Most notably, she worked in various capacities at the Clay County Hospital for over 18 years and also worked for several years as a school nurse for the Blue Valley school district in Randolph.  She retired from nursing in 1999.

She is survived by her son, Kevin Dettmer and wife Kyra, and their children, Kelbi, Kaghen, Kinsley and Kaehl, all of Randolph; one sister, Gladys Wood of Wheatfield, Indiana and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer; two brothers, Wendell and Wayne Dimon and three sisters, Francis Dimon, Donna Jean Fuller and Marjie Sample.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley with Pastor Kevin Larson officiating.  The family will receive friends from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday.  Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, northwest of Randolph.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beverly Dettmer Memorial Fund and left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
