Betty Jane Richards, age 80, of Riley, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2016 at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan. She was born on September 3, 1935 on the family farm outside of Elm Creek, Nebraska, the daughter of Edward Marion and Bertha Jane (Pflaum) Becker. She was a homemaker and military wife and traveled the world with her husband on military assignments to France, Germany and all over America. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and was a member of the Elm Creek First Christian Church. She was married to Walter Lee Richards on April 19, 1953 in Elm Creek, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on November 5, 2012. She is survived by one son, Lyle Richards of Elm Creek, Nebraska; one sister, Alta Bentley of Kearney, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Donna Richards of Kearney, Nebraska; a daughter-in-law, Maria Richards of Brownsville, Texas; three grandchildren, Shawn Feldman and wife Yong, Christian Richards and Ashley Richards and two great grandsons, Quintin and Otto Feldman. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alan Richards and one sister, Luella Smith. Respect calls may be made anytime Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home in Riley. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Elm Creek First Christian Church in Elm Creek, Nebraska with Pastor Scott Foster officiating. Burial will follow in the Elm Creek Cemetery. A memorial has been established for the Elm Creek First Christian Church. Contributions may be left in care of the Anderes-Pfeifley Funeral Home.
