Deborah Jean (Broadston) Barrington, 74, Blue Rapids, died Thursday, January 20, 2022, at Bryan LGH in Lincoln, NE., of Covid.

Deb was born on October 5, 1947 at Washington, Kansas the daughter of Evelyn (Gordon) and William Broadston.

She attended school in Washington and graduated from business college in Kansas City. 

On May 26, 1973 she married Dean Barrington at the Blue Rapids First Baptist Church.Deb believed in serving her community and was active in the Blue Rapids Chamber of Commerce serving as a past President and Secretary. She was a great cook and many people in the community enjoyed her special gifts. Deb was an avid KU fan and never missed watching and cheering for the Jay Hawks on TV. She also enjoyed and looked forward to helping plan and host a Broadston family reunion every year. She enjoyed planting and caring for her many flower baskets around her home. Deb worked at several businesses around the community including Woody’s Pharmacy, Blue Valley Nursing Home, Community Memorial Hospital and Orschelns in Marysville. Her very favorite was being a bus driver for the Valley Heights community. She loved the many students she transported and enjoyed getting to know the families of her bus kids.

Deb is survived by her daughter Ragena Smith, grandson Justin Persell, stepmother Vonnie Broadston of Steele City, NE, granddaughters Riley Persell and Aliyannah Barrager, sister Beverly Miller and husband Jerry, brother Billy Broadston, brother-in-law Bill Barrington and wife Charli, sister-in-law Rhonda Haynes and many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends who will miss her very much.

Deb is preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Pete Back, husband Dean Barrington, sister Diane Haberman, niece Betsy Haberman, brother-in-laws Arlen Haynes and Wayne Barrington, sister-in-law Betty Barrington and nephew Randy Barrington.

Viewing will be Tuesday, January 25th from noon to 8 pm with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00pm at Christie-Anderes Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services will be at 2 pm, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at the Blue Rapids United Methodist Church with the Pastor Berniece Ludlum officiating. Music will be by Althea Wertz with a recording of “The Family Bible” sung by Deb’s Uncle Clyde Broadston and Kim Oatney singing “Because He Lives”. Pallbearers will be Justin Persell, Allen Yungeberg, Chad Gordon, Jimmy Barrington, Ryan Woodyard, and Corey Woodyard. Honorary pallbearers will be Bud Gordon, Brandon Pillard, Dennis Sedlacek and Don Osborne.

Burial will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery north of Blue Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be designated for a Valley Heights Scholarship given in Deb’s name and may be sent to Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, KS 66548.
