Barrie E. Sloan

Barrie E. Sloan, age 82, of Waterville, passed away quietly in his sleep while at home on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Barrie was born in Manhattan on August 31, 1938 to Ralph and Dorothy (Lilley) Sloan.

He graduated from Randolph High School in 1956.

Barrie was married to Altamae L. Slansky on November 23, 1963 at Leonardville.

He worked at Hutchinson Manufacturing in Clay Center as a warehouse foreman for twenty-five years, retiring in 2003.

Barrie loved being outside, fishing, hunting and shooting. He had several awards for his rifle marksmanship. If he wasn’t outside, he would often visit with friends about guns or be reading one of the many books he kept handy. To say he was an avid reader would be an understatement. He also enjoyed collecting old pocket watches. Barrie loved his wife Altamae, his family, people, and his country. He will be missed by many and was loved by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two siblings: Larry Sloan and Garnet Reagan and an infant son, Barrie E. Sloan, Jr.

Survivors include his wife Altamae of 57 years, his three children, Dawn (Jeff) Lindstrom, Denise (Chris) Cameron and David Sloan, six grandchildren, three sisters: Patricia (Howard) McGlothlin, Peggy Edwards, Beverly Crawforth, and two brothers: Tim (Autumn) Sloan and Mark Sloan.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Thursday, with visitation between 5:00 and 7:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. Graveside Services will be held at Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery on Sunday, June 13, 2021, at 1:00pm, with Mr. Rod Christie officiating. Music is to include a pre-recorded selection of Amazing Grace. Casket Bearers are Ken Specht, Howard McGlothlin, Jay Savage, Nik Sedivy, Steve Fritz, Gary Crownover and John Gentry. Burial is at Randolph Fancy Creek Cemetery, south of Waterville.

Memorials are suggested to Cancer Center of Kansas and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
