Elaine J. "Sam" Berger

Elaine J. “Sam” Berger, age 72, of Barnes, passed away on Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Brian Medical Center East, in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Elaine was born on October 14, 1948, at old Randolph, to Harold A. and Leona M. (Norman) Blaske.

She graduated from Linn High School in 1966.

She married Delvin L. “Del” Berger on December 30, 1972.

She had worked a Walmart for several years.

Elaine was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Waterville, chairperson of the Washington County farmers union. She was also a member of AA and was proud of her twenty-two years being sober.

Elaine loved her horses and cows as much as she loved her dogs and cats. She treated them all like pets. On Sundays, don’t get in the way of her watching the Chiefs, or the Yankees when they played. She always looked forward to the fall when she could go deer hunting.

Elaine was a tenacious woman. She loved working on the family farm, and if there was a job to be done, she stayed on it until it was done, no matter how much she hurt. The same spirit meant that no matter what, she was going to keep going and would not quit without a fight, which is what she did until the end.

Survivors include her two children: Ben Berger and wife Holly of Marysville and Suzette Yungeberg and husband Adam of Barnes, a brother Warren Blaske of Linn, three sisters: Marlene and husband Reverend Keith Kohlmeier of Wichita, Kim and husband Erick Bushell of Clay Center, and Connie and husband Danny Fee also of Clay Center and three grandchildren: Asher, Macie and Kaylie.

Preceding Elaine in death were her parents and husband Del, who passed away February 27, 2019.Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Monday, with visitation between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville.

Funeral services are planned for 10:30 am, Tuesday, December 15, 2020, at Marysville Christian Fellowship with Pastor Brad Wicks officiating. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville with Sister Mary Arie Officiating. Casket Bearers are: Bill Lundberg, Danny Lundberg, Eric Berger, Dave Bruna, Ann Platt and Bobbie Whearty. Honorary Bearers are her grandchildren, Asher, Macie and Kaylee, and her brothers-in-laws Reverend Keith Kohlmeier, Erick Bushell and Danny Fee.

Memorials are suggested the Elaine Berger Memorial, to be designated later, and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
