Myrtle E. Dettmer, age 99, of Waterville, passed away Monday, November 30, 2020, at Community Memorial Health Care in Marysville.

Myrtle was born on April 25, 1921, on the family farm near Bodaville, south of Barnes, to Levi “Lee” and Sophia E. (Boda) Gnagy.

She attended Banner Country School and graduated from Barnes High School in 1939. 

On October 9, 1940, Myrtle married Norval E. Dettmer at Washington. He passed away March 13, 1997.

Myrtle was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women at the church. 

She was a very simple person with simple tastes. She loved her vegetable garden and spending time with her family.

Survivors include three sisters: Ona Crawford of Lincoln, Verna Gibson of Marietta and Melva (Charles) Lindeen of Marysville, and by many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Myrtle in death were her parents, step-father Carl Simmons, husband Norval, two brothers: Noel “Bud” Gnagy and Walter Lee Gnagy, and by a sister, Verla Lindeen.

Viewing is from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. Funeral services are at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 5, 2020, at the United Methodist Church in Waterville with Pastor Troy Bowers officiating. Music is to include “How Great Thou Art” sung by Kim Oatne, and a congregational hymn of “Amazing Grace, accompanied by Beverly Hedke on the organ. Casket Bearers are Pierce Holliman, Dennis White, Tracy Mann, Bryce Porter, Darrell Spain and Travis Treff.  Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.

Memorials are suggested to Waterville United Methodist Church and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
