Dorothy L. Johnston, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2020, in Round Rock, Texas at the age of 99.
Dorothy was born on July 29, 1921 at the family home in Marshall County Kansas to Millie and Alva Reust.
She attended the Enterprise Rural School & Vermillion High School. She graduated in the Normal Training Program in 1939. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education from Kansas State University in 1964. She had a 32 year career as a teacher having taught elementary students at: Snodgrass, Enterprise, Vliets, Blue Rapids, Thomas, Prairie Ridge, Waterville and Marysville.
On June 4, 1946 she married Ralph S. Johnston and they raised two daughters, Janiece Lee (Dick) and Barbara Nunez (David) and one son, Kenneth (Teena).
In addition to her teaching career, Dorothy participated in many community activities: singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school at the United Methodist Church, member of Delta Kappa Gamma, and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution.
She loved to play the piano and to surround herself with friends and family. She was known for thinking of others with her kind and compassionate spirit.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ralph.
She is survived by her three children, Janiece, Round Rock, TX: Barbara, Gardner, KS; and Kenneth, Rexford, KS: three grandchildren, Leigh Ann Locke (Kelly), Bryan, TX; Brent Johnston (Kassandra), Rexford, KS and Scott Johnston (Laura), Rexford, KS, seven great grandchildren, Landon Johnston, Blake Burtin, Ryan Burtin, Tyler Burtin, Bryleigh Burtin, Emily Locke, and Ellie Locke, a nephew, Dale Stanton (Jane), Orlando, FL and a niece Mildred Reust Donahue (Larry), Frankfort, KS.
Viewing will be from noon to 8:00 pm, on Friday, with visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids. A funeral service will be held on Sat. the 29th of August, 2020 at the Fairmont Cemetery in Blue Rapids, Kansas, at 10:00 a.m., where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Ralph. The service will be officiated by Pastor Troy Bowers. Please feel free to bring a lawn chair for the service.
