Henry J. Zabokrtsky, age 85, of Blue Rapids, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Blue Valley Senior Living in Blue Rapids.Henry was born August 8, 1932, on the family farm near the Afton Community, NW of Waterville, to Henry John and Helen R. (Myne) Zabokrtsky. He left school early to work on the family farm. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard during the Korean War. On August 14, 1969, he married Shirley D. Shockey, she passed away in 2000.Henry, farmed until the early 1990’s, then worked custom haying until a few years ago when his health prevented him. He was a lifelong member at Afton Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council and was church treasurer for thirty-two years.Survivors include his two sons; Henry “Hank” (Lori) Zabokrtsky of Blue Rapids and Jason (Amanda) Zabokrtsky of Wymore, Nebraska, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.Preceding in death were his parents, wife, Shirley, two brothers Ray Zabokrtsky and Jim Zabokrtsky and two sisters Mary Ann Vator and Johanna Peterson.Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Friday at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville.Funeral services are at 10:30 am, Saturday, March 24, at Afton Trinity Lutheran Church, NW of Waterville with Deacon Don Dodd officiating. Hymns are to include; “In The Garden”, “Rock of Ages”, “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord is My Shepherd, I Shall Not Want”, with Susan Moore as the organist. Casket Bearers are, Jordan Demelo, Will Ralph, Scott Zabokrtsky, John Zabokrtsky, Luin Burger and Mike Cox. Honorary Bearers are; Francis Hanke, Don Mann and Bob Blaser.Burial is at Afton Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, NW of Waterville. Military honors provided by a detail from the Kansas Army National Guard.Memorials are suggested to Henry Zabokrtsky Memorial, to help with funeral expenses, and may be sent in care of the funeral home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
