Dale R. Oelschlager, age 71, of Barnes, received the gift of eternal life in heaven on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Via Christi Hospital in Manhattan.Dale was born on September 26, 1947, at Clay Center, the son of Lester C. and Novella K. (Wichman) Oelschlager. Dale was baptized into the Christian faith on October 19, 1947, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, south of Barnes, by Reverend B.W. Habratschk. His sponsors were Clarence Wichman and Minnie Wichman. On March 26, 1961, Dale was confirmed in his faith at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church by Reverend E. H. Temme. On February 27, 1969, he married Karen K. Weaver at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.Dale graduated from Barnes High School in 1965. He was a farmer, rural mail carrier for Barnes and had served in the Kansas Army National Guard where he served a tour in Korea. Dale was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and had served as Barnes Township Treasurer. He was a member of John Doerr Post 145 of the American Legion, where he served as Commander. He was also a member of the NRA. Dale was a loving husband, father and grandfather.Dale was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Royce Oelschlager and Dennis Oelschlager and by an infant sister, Ardis Carol Oelschlager.Survivors include his wife Karen Oelschlager, a son, Eric (Katheryn Richardson) Oelschlager of Atwood, two daughters; Alisa Lindsey of Moberly, Missouri and Megan (Mathew) Haller of North Platte, Nebraska, nine grandchildren, a sister, Cheryl (Bill) Lehman of Topeka, and a sister-in-law, Georgia Oelschlager of Barnes.Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Thursday, with visitation between 6:30 and 8:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville.Funeral services are at 2:00 pm, Friday, November 2, 2018, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church south of Barnes, with Pastor Matthew Durance officiating. Congregational Hymns include “Amazing Grace”, “Abide With Me”, “Just As I Am” and “Savior Again To Thy Dear Name We Raise”, accompanied by organist Kathie Otney. Casket Bearers are Jerald Oelschlager, Nicholas Lindsey, Jacob Lindsey, Jared Lindsey, Ken Weaver, Gail Oelschlager and Robbie Oelschlager. Honorary Bearers are Nicole Oelschlager, Kayley Lindsey, Aiden Lindsay Alexis Haller, Alivia Haller, Mathew Haller, Kathryn Richardson and Joshua Bethel.Burial is at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by a detail from the Kansas Army National Guard, John Doerr Post 145 of the American Legion, Barnes and Shaw Post 235 of the American Legion, Greenleaf.Memorials are suggested to the Dale Oelschlager Memorial, to be designated later, and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
