Kenneth E. "Gene" Cooney, Jr. age 67, of Blue Rapids, passed away at Bryan Medical Center, West, in Lincoln, Nebraska, on Monday, December 10, 2018.Gene was born on June 6, 1951, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Mary I. (Hildenbrand) and Kenneth E. Cooney, Sr. He married Susan “Sue” K. Lawrence in 1978 at Pomona, California.He was a carpet layer, he thought of his family first and was a hard worker. Gene enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, joking around with friends and family, going to auctions and cruising in his LTD.Survivors include his wife Sue, his children; Karri VanAlst of Marysville, Robert Cooney of Marysville, Kenneth Cooney of Hutchinson, Mike Cooney of Blue Rapids and Austin VanAlst of Blue Rapids, two brothers; Steven Rash of Waterville and Raymond Rash of Fairwell, Michigan, a sister, Patricia Lawrence of Beatrice, Nebraska and nine grandchildren.Preceding Gene in death are his parents.At Noon, Saturday, December 29, 2018, a memorial service will be held at the United Methodist Church in Blue Rapids.
