Irma M. Sweet, Irma M. Sweet, age 81, of Waterville, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019, at Homestead Assisted Living in Manhattan.

Irma was born December 7, 1937, at Nortonville, Kansas, to George W.A. and Rhoda V. (Bowman) Stansell.

She married Wayne Delbert Sweet on March 15, 1964 at Waterville. He passed away on March 24, 1997.

She and Wayne owned and operated the Sweet Country Café in Waterville, they also worked together on the family’s farm.

Irma was a member of the Waterville United Methodist Church, the WSCS Women’s Society, Waterville Saddle Club and the Waterville Opera House building committee.

She had worked at Gator’s Hometown Foods in Blue Rapids until her retirement.

Irma loved to cook. She enjoyed when her family could gather together and enjoy a meal. And, if you went away hungry, it was your own fault. There was always plenty. Irma, also enjoyed sewing, playing pinnacle, going to square dances with Wayne. Most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren’s visits and the time they spent together.

Survivors include her four children: Russell (Connie) Sweet of Garfield, Arkansas, Wesley Strange of Goodland, Delbert (Denise) Sweet of Holton, and Kim (David) Stevenson of Riley, eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Other survivors include three sisters Kay (Tom) Emmerich of Lawrence, Jean Langworthy of Washington State, Rita Navinskey of Nortonville. Sister-in-laws Georgia Stansell of Lecompton and Linda Stansell of Valley Falls. Brother-in-law Don Schuler of Nortonville. Numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding in death were her parents and husband Wayne, four brothers: Frank Stansell, Jim Stansell, George Stansell and Luther Stansell, three sisters: Alpha Cohoon, Eva Lee Whitecotton and Margaret Schuler and a sister-in-law Jeannette Stansell.

Viewing is from noon to 8:00 pm, Wednesday, with visitation between 6:00 and 8:00 pm, at Terry-Christie Funeral Home in Waterville. Funeral services are at 10:30 am, Thursday, July 11, 2019, at the Waterville United Methodist Church with Pastor Troy Bowers officiating. Kim Oatney will be the musician. Music will include recordings of “I Want To Stroll Over Heaven With You” and Delbert singing “The Lord’s Prayer”, a congregational hymn of “How Great Thou Art” and Leigha Sweet will be singing “Love Remains”. Casket Bearers include: Wayne Stansell, Jamie Stansell, Gator Gaydusek, Mark Rowe, Jim Tilley and Gene Harding. Burial is at Riverside Cemetery in Waterville.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to either: Waterville United Methodist Church or Ronald McDonald House and may be sent in care of Terry-Christie Funeral Home at PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
